Pleasure form heavy metal

In recent seasons, the love of luxury has been expressed in shimmering
metallic fabrics adorning everything from accessories to dresses. But
gold is clearly the standard, even though some of us prefer silver,
pewter or platinum. Indeed, gold hasn't been this big since James Bond's
Goldfinger hit the screen 40 years ago. Why do we love it so much? It
sparkles; it shines; it brightens - and best of all - it looks good in
combination with nearly every color scheme imaginable.

Futuristic styles featuring lots of gold and other metallic colours
dominated the Milan Spring/Summer 2007 collections. Inspired by designers
of the 1960s such as Mary Quant, and movies like Star Wars, many of the
fashions had a strange space-age feel. These included tight corsets which
looked like they were made of steel, large goggle-eyed sunglasses and
sequined cat suits with bat wing sleeves. Combined with this space-age
theme were clothes in metallic colors, such as Dolce & Gabbana's silver
gowns, gold bermuda shorts, and very mini minis. Metallic accessories
such as sparkling body jewelry, small handbags, and high-heeled silver,
bronze or gold sandals looked spectacular on the catwalks of Versace and
Blumarine. Silver dresses came in all styles and sizes, and in materials
ranging from brocade to shiny, plastic-like cloth. Armani's version
offered an unmistakable statement of elegance and refinement, as usual,
while Manolo Blahnik's gold evening shoes are simply a must for a special
night.

That said, the simplest way to add a touch of gold to your wardrobe is
with golden jewelry or accessories. There are plenty of affordable
necklaces, bangles, bags and shoes around. But to wear them right, make
sure to follow our simple tips:

Don't wear gold head-to-toe, but mix gold pieces with neutrals like black
or white for maximum impact. Don't wear gold on a body part that you
don't want to emphasize (gold brings lots of attention). Gold is perfect
for eveningwear but don't be afraid to wear it by day too, maybe mixing
it with dark denim, leather and other fabrics. And finally, remember to
complement your outfit with burnished make-up hues for an ultra-luxurious
look.
