An online booking system for marriage registration will be put into use
in Beijing before May 1st.

Beijing Star Daily quotes an official from the Municipal Bureau of Civil
Affairs as saying, "The system is undergoing upgrading from its trial
version and will be ready before May."

The system allows couples to select their big date online, and submit
documents later to save time.

It is expected to reduce the current long lines in front of the marriage
registration office.

The trial version reportedly received lots of positive feedback.

Statistics show nearly 100 thousand pairs tied the knot in Beijing in
2005. Nearly the same number was estimated in 2006.

Many other Chinese cities are also witnessing a wedding boom.
