Shanghai office people busy taking tonics

Starting from this week, many hospitals that deal with traditional
Chinese medical treatment in Shanghai have opened a consulting service
about the tonics people they should take during the forthcoming winter
season. Contrary to previous years when old people mostly made
appointments for such a service, this year many young people in Shanghai
are joining in.
Many young men who work in offices need some antifatigue therapies while
young female white collars want to know how to fight against senescence
and look young. Experts warn that although tonics can help alleviate
problems resulting from subhealthy conditions or from some chronic
diseases, people should not count on them to cure their diseases.
Mr. Zhang, 38, works in a foreign company on Huaihai Road. He came to
Shuguang Hospital to make an appointment for the tonic service early in
the morning.
"I don't have any serious diseases. However, since I work in a foreign
company, I often suffer from great pressure and get tired easily. So I
come here to seek some tonic therapies from the doctor to 'charge' the
body," said Mr. Zhang.
Like him, many male white collars are inclined to get some tonic
treatment to fight against fatigue, to get out of the subhealthy
conditions, and to improve their immune system. Recently, large hospitals
in Shanghai have received many white collar workers, most of them aged
around 30.
Unlike men, many female white collars want to receive herbal treatment to
fight against their aging problem and to make themselves look young. For
some people, they want to cure problems such as menoxenia, dysmenorrhoea,
dark skin, specks or acne on the face.
Thirty-year-old Ms. Li works in a senior post in a foreign company. She
said that she was suffering from insomnia resulting from heavy work
pressure. Her eyes were often ringed with fatigue and she also had
chloasma problem. She hoped that by taking some tonics, she could get out
of the subhealthy conditions.
